Government to Build and Own Singapore’s First LNG Import Terminal

The Singapore Government announced in June 2009 that it would take over the development and ownership of Singapore’s first Liquefied Natural Gas import terminal.  The terminal will be a critical component of Singapore's energy infrastructure to ensure diversification of its gas supply sources and enhance its energy security.

A new company, Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG), was formed to own the terminal and oversee its development. SLNG awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the terminal to Samsung C&T Corporation in Feb 2010.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the LNG terminal was held on 31 March 2010. It will have an initial capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and is targeted to be operational in the second quarter of 2013. This capacity will increase to 6 Mtpa by the end of 2013 when additional jetties and regasification facilities are completed. The terminal’s third tank is targeted for completion by the first quarter of 2014.

Access to LNG Terminal

SLNG will provide terminal services to its customers without undue discrimination. However, access to the LNG terminal will be subject to the spare capacity of the terminal's facilities, such as tank capacity and berthing slots. Parties interested to access SLNG's terminal services may contact SLNG at corpsvcs@slngcorp.com. Relevant information will also be made available on SLNG’s website upon the start of its commercial operations.
