EMA Distinguished Speaker Programme: A Public Lecture on “A Glimpse into the Energy Future”

About the Speaker:

As Chief Economist of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Dr Fatih Birol is responsible for the organisation’s economic analysis of energy and climate change policy.  He oversees the annual World Energy Outlook, which is the flagship publication of the IEA and recognised as the most authoritative source for energy analysis and projections.  Dr Birol has been named by Forbes Magazine as the world's fourth most powerful person in terms of influence on the world's energy scene. He was appointed Chairman of the World Economic Forum's Energy Advisory Board in 2010.

Synopsis:       

Dr Birol will be sharing key findings from the IEA’s special report on “Are We Entering a Golden Age of Gas?”, which examines the key factors that could secure a more prominent role for natural gas in the global energy mix, and the implications for other fuels and climate change.  He will also touch on topics such as the impact of high energy prices on economic recovery, geopolitical unrest, price volatility and energy security, uncertainty surrounding the role of nuclear power, as well as the situation between climate actions and climate goals.

National Energy Efficiency Conference

The National Energy Efficiency Conference (NEEC) is a key event of the Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP), to be held from 24 to 25 May 2011 at Suntec City Convention Centre. The event, co-organised by EMA, provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and discussions on energy efficiency best practices and issues. The keynote speaker is Mr. Pasquale Pistorio, Honorary Chair and former CEO of ST Microelectronics.

The inaugural EENP Awards Ceremony will be held in conjunction with NEEC 2011 on the evening of 24 May 2011. The EENP Awards aim to foster a culture of sustained energy efficiency improvement in industry, especially the major energy consuming industries. The awards also aim to encourage companies to adopt a more proactive approach towards energy management by identifying positive examples for companies to emulate. About the Speaker

Tan Sri Leo Moggie is the Chairman of Tenaga Nasional Berhad and a number of companies under the Tenaga Nasional Group since 12 April 2004.  He also sits as an Independent Director of DiGi.Com Berhad effective 10 May 2005 and of the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) effective 27 February 2008.  He was a Minister in the Malaysian Federal Cabinet from 1978 until he retired as the Minister of Energy, Communications and Multimedia in 2004.

Tan Sri Leo Moggie was born in Sarawak on 1 October 1941.  He graduated with a M.A. in History from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1965, and a M.B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University, USA in 1973.  He was conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Otago University in 2000, and the Honorary Doctorate of Science by Multimedia University Malaysia in  2003.

Energy SAVE Roadshow@ Pasir Ris–Punggol GRC

The Energy SAVE roadshow is jointly organised by HDB, NEA and EMA to encourage the reduction of energy consumption in HDB flats. The programme targets to reduce energy consumption in HDB estates by 30% for common areas and 10% for households over a period of five years. The roadshow will share energy efficiency tips and solutions with residents.
