PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT GAS PIPES DURING RENOVATION WORKS
1) Firstly, you would have to ensure that any alteration work in your premises carried out by you or your renovation contractor will not and does not damage any concealed service piping such as gas pipes in your premises and cause a gas leak.
2) You would need to ascertain the location of the concealed gas pipes prior to carrying out any work such as drilling, nailing and hacking on your walls. You can locate the concealed gas pipes, wiring and other services in the wall using a metal detector.
3) If you wish to install, alter or repair any gas pipe or gas appliance, ensure that a Licensed Gas Service Worker is engaged to carry out the work.
4) As a precautionary measure, you may request City Gas Pte Ltd to temporarily cut-off the town gas supply to your premises during the period of the renovation work. You can arrange with City Gas Pte Ltd to turn on the town gas supply to your premises after the completion of the renovation work. City Gas Pte Ltd will check that the gas installation is safe before turning-on the gas supply. For more information, you may call City Gas Pte Ltd at Tel: 1800-7521800.
5) If you decide not to turn off your town gas supply during the renovation period, you are advised to conduct regular checks to ensure there is no gas leak or a smell of the town gas in your premises.
6) At the end of each day, turn off all gas appliances and check that the meter is not registering any usage of gas. If the meter is still ticking, there is likely to be a gas leak. Turn off the gas control valve at the gas meter. Refer to your licensed gas service worker immediately.
