Singapore bags 5 ASEAN Energy Awards

Four Singapore organisations bagged top awards at the 2010 ASEAN Energy Awards. Convened annually, the ASEAN Energy Awards recognise efforts by enterprising ASEAN companies to integrate renewable energy and energy efficient solutions in their projects.

Statement from EMA on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Supply Contracts for Singapore

Media reports on 30 June 2010 quoted Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew as saying that Singapore will be building a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to buy gas from Qatar and store it.  EMA has received several queries from the industry on this matter, and would like to clarify the context in which these remarks were made.

The Minister for Trade and Industry has appointed new members to the Boards of SPRING Singapore (SPRING), JTC Corporation (JTC) and Energy Market Authority (EMA). In addition, there were re-appointments at SPRING, EMA and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC). These appointments took effect on 1 April 2010.

Construction starts for Singapore's LNG Terminal

A groundbreaking ceremony was held today for Singapore’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal at Jurong Island. The LNG terminal facility will be Asia’s first open-access multi-user terminal, capable of importing and reexporting LNG from multiple suppliers.

Samsung C&T Corporation awarded the EPC Contract for Singapore's LNG Terminal

The Singapore LNG Corporation Pte Ltd (SLNG) has awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of Singapore's LNG terminal to Samsung C&T Corporation (Samsung).  The total budget for the terminal funded by the Singapore Government is S$1.5 billion, of which about S$1 billion is for the EPC contract.  SLNG, which owns and oversees the development of the terminal, will issue a “Notice to Proceed” to Samsung to start the detailed design, engineering and construction phases of the terminal immediately.

Pulau Ubin is an island north east of Singapore with a land area of around 10 km2 (see Figure 1). Currently, Pulau Ubin is home to about 100 villagers, and the island has evolved to an adventure getaway with well-preserved natural habitat managed by the National Parks Board. There are also a few small businesses, resorts and training camps operated by the Outward Bound Singapore and National Police Cadets Corps. Pulau Ubin’s current annual electricity consumption is around 2,500 MWh per annum with maximum demand estimated at 1.7 MW.
