My Internship Experience

Bryan Lim

I was attached to EMA for eight weeks as an intern with the Human Resource (HR) department. During this short period of time, I learnt a lot about EMA and its contribution to Singapore. Most importantly, I was able to learn more about myself and gain invaluable working experience at the same time.

In addition to technical knowledge gained from being involved in the development of a Human Resource Integrated System for the organisation, I was able to apply my communication and interpersonal skills by playing a role in various HR projects, such as the facilitation of engagement platforms for all staff as well as the design of collaterals. EMA also provided me an insight on how the different functions in a HR department work, for example, what actually goes behind a seemingly simple launch of a training framework. The patience of my supervisor and colleagues gave me ample room to learn from my mistakes, while their close guidance helped me do the best I can.

Working at EMA has its own challenges like any other organisation. However, the culture at EMA motivates everyone to seek improvements and care for one another. I was able to see for myself how a motivated group of individuals could work as a team to improve the quality of life for all Singaporeans.

I can never be grateful enough to EMA for this wonderful opportunity to gain knowledge and experience. I started my internship as an ignorant student, and completed the internship as an empowered individual.
