China's Clean Energy Thrust
China has in recent years stepped up efforts to develop a clean energy economy to augment its energy supplies from traditional sources and create export industries in the clean energy sector. It plans to achieve this through a mix of policies, aimed at improving efficiency and conservation while diversifying its energy sources. China’s growth has been supported by cheap supplies of fossil fuels, and it faces a major challenge in trying to reduce the dominance of energy-intensive industries while balancing economic growth. With China planning investments of up to US$660bn over 10 years, countries with limited resources like Singapore, will have to play to their strengths to remain competitive.
