Power System Operator
The Power System Operator is a Division of the EMA and is responsible for the secure supply of electricity to consumers and operation of the transmission system. The Division operates from the Power System Control Centre (PSCC) which is the nerve centre of the electricity generation and transmission system in Singapore. We perform our functions round the clock monitoring and operating the electricity transmission system and generation dispatch to maintain system security. We also carry out power system analysis and studies. which includes impact assessment of new generating plants as well as the electricity and gas transmission network expansion plans. More details of the scope of our activities and the various systems and processes that enable us to perform our functions effectively are given in the sections below.
Essential Systems
We rely on state-of-the-art systems to monitor and control the supply and transmission of electricity such as the Electricity Management System, Gas Monitoring System, Interruptible Load Monitoring System to name a few. Find out more about these and the other systems we use.
System Planning
A secure and reliable power system that meets Singapore’s current and future electricity needs is the result of detailed system planning that involves the large-concentrated and small-distributed generating plants, electricity transmission network and so on. Find out more about the various elements that go into our system planning.
System Operation
System operation involves round the clock monitoring and control of the electricity transmission system and generators by teams of System Control officers on 8-hours shift-duty. Each team is led by an experienced Control Manager who is assisted by 4 Technical Executives.
Find out more about the Power System Operation Procedures and the Singapore Electricity Emergency Plan, which list the standards, operating policies and standing operating procedures that are required for industry players compliance to maintain the security and reliability of the electricity system.
