Gas Importer
Gas importers are entities permitted to import natural gas into Singapore. They must have a valid Gas Importer Licence issued by EMA before engaging in gas import activities.
A Gas Importer (LNG) Licence is required for
importing liquefied natural gas (LNG). On 30 June 2014, EMA launched a
two-stage Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint up to two LNG importers to
supply the next tranche of LNG for Singapore. The RFP closed on 30 Jun 2016.
EMA has completed the evaluation and appointed Pavilion Gas Pte Ltd and Shell
Eastern Trading (Pte) Ltd to be the second tranche LNG importers. They will
each have exclusivity to market up to 1 Mtpa of LNG or for 3 years, whichever
is earlier. The next tranche of LNG imports has commenced on 23 Oct 2017. This
also marked the conclusion of the first exclusive franchise awarded to BG
Singapore Gas Marketing (now known as Shell Gas Marketing Pte Ltd) which was
subsequently acquired by Royal Dutch Shell.
