By the “service with a smile” yardstick, Tan Hwee Eng’s performance is exemplary. No surprise then that the Administrative Executive from EMA’s Electricity Inspectorate Branch scored another win at this year’s prestigious Public Service 21 Star Service Award.
Her first award was in 2012.
Since 2003, the annual Award recognises public service officers for service excellence in the public service. Deserving of her award, Hwee Eng has earned a reputation for being quick to respond and willing to help in any way she can. But her greatest asset may be her ability to be all of those things and still maintain a warm and caring attitude towards everyone she meets. This could range from difficult customers to having to guide electricians through the rigorous processes for new applications and renewal of licences.
On what keeps her going, she credits her patience. More importantly, “it is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting”.
“Start the day with a smile. A smile is the light in the window that tells others that there is a caring, sharing person inside,” she adds, flashing that megawatt smile.
