Media Releases 11 Aug 2009

NEW YORK, August 11, 2009—Platts—Platts, the world’s leading global energy information provider and a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies (MHP), will announce its annual Platts Top 250 Global Energy Companies ranking on November 16, 2009 at a recognition dinner in Singapore. Now in its eighth year, the Top 250 measures financial performance, ranking companies globally, regionally and by industry sector.

This year’s ranking will be unveiled at the fourth annual Platts Top 250 Global Energy Companies Awards and Leadership Dinner which will be held for the first time on the opening night of Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).

"Singapore International Energy Week attracts industry leaders from across Asia and around the globe, and we are delighted that our dinner will be the featured event of this year’s opening night," said Larry Neal, Platts president. "By holding our annual dinner during this dynamic week-long series of events, we are underscoring our belief in Asia’s importance to the global energy industry and our commitment to serving the Asian markets."

Platts has entered a three-year partnership with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) to be a part of SIEW. The weeklong event from November 16 – 20 will provide a platform for international and regional policy makers, industry players and academics to exchange ideas, strategies and best practices that will help shape global and industry energy agendas. Other notable events at this year’s SIEW include the Singapore Energy Lecture featuring award-winning author Daniel Yergin, the Clean Energy Expo Asia, and the Singapore Electricity Roundtable.

"We are very happy to have Platts as one of our key partners for the Singapore International Energy Week. Energy companies in Asia are consistently placed amongst the top ranks of the Platts roster, and this highlights the region's influence in the global energy market. We look forward to welcoming leading energy executives from all over the region and beyond to Singapore, and honoring their achievements in this special event," said Lawrence Wong, Chief Executive, Energy Market Authority.

The Platts Top 250 Global Energy Companies Awards and Leadership Dinner will be held at Singapore’s Shangri-la Hotel. At the dinner, the Top 250 ranking in full will be announced, along with regional leaders and the leading companies in several sectors: diversified utilities, electric utilities, gas utilities, independent power producers, coal and consumable fuels, integrated oil and gas, and refining and marketing. In addition, the fastest growing companies in key areas and select executives from top-performing companies will be recognised.

Some 200 energy executives are expected to attend the dinner, which is sponsored by Logical Information Machines, a solutions provider that gathers, analyses and distributes data to clients from over 200 different sources in the financial and energy markets.
