Singapore – 1 July 2014 – Registration for the 7th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2014 opens today. Organised by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) since 2008, SIEW has developed over the years into a leading forum for discussing energy issues in Asia.

SIEW’s theme for 2014, “Building Energy Connections”, reflects how energy markets are becoming increasingly interconnected. Key energy thought leaders set to share their insights at SIEW include: Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Masakazu Toyoda, Chairman and CEO of the Institute of Energy Economics Japan (IEEJ); Peter Schwartz, futurist and co-founder of the Global Business Network; and Anthony Jude, Senior Adviser and Practice Lead (Energy) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Singapore Energy Summit, kick-starts the week and provides insights into topical issues including energy connectivity in Asia, exploring the optimal energy mix, integrating renewables into our energy system and the role of energy technologies in sustainability.

This adds to a suite of conferences and events which cover the spectrum of today’s global energy priorities; including:

• The Asian Energy Financial and Investment Conference is the first Asian event hosted by the notable Edison Electric Institute, and will include investment presentations, a project financing workshop, and opportunities for investors and analysts to meet C-suite energy executives.
• The European Union Business Avenues Clean Technologies 2014 marks their inaugural mission in ASEAN, with 40 leading European companies presenting their latest technologies.
• One of the world’s largest downstream-focused events, Downstream & Petrochemical Asia will gather the industry to discuss business-critical issues such as process efficiency, cracking technology, and petrochemical complex integration.
• The Gas Asia Summit is a platform for high-level dialogue around the strategic and commercial drivers of Asia’s gas market.
• The RE@SIEW exhibition will showcase the latest developments in renewables and electro-mobility.
• The Platts Top 250 Asia Awards Dinner will recognise contributions by leading energy industry captains and companies.

SIEW Thinktank Roundtables, run by international organisations such as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS), Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Energy Studies Institute (ESI), and Energy Research Institute@NTU (ERI@N), also provide opportunity for knowledge sharing. Each roundtable offers in-depth discussions on various focused topics such as renewable energy, electricity market reform and clean coal technology.

SIEW 2014 will also provide opportunities for students and youths to share their views and perspectives on energy issues. These include the In Dialogue with Youth and the Youth Energy Showcase.
