28 Jun 2016
Media Releases 28 Jun 2016
  1. Early to mid-career Singaporeans in the Power sector will now have a new SkillsFuture Study Awards to support them in deepening their power engineering skills. Announced by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) today, this Awards, which is supported by the Union of Power and Gas Employees (UPAGE), aims to nurture a strong Singaporean core in the Power sector workforce. Application opens from 1 July 2016, with 30 Study Awards for eligible candidates. This award is bond-free and can be used in addition to existing government course fee subsidies.
  2. Successful applicants of the SkillsFuture Study Awards will each receive S$5,000. This can be used to defray out-of-pocket training expenses for Power sector related engineering courses. These range from Higher NITEC, diploma and degree programmes offered by the local institutes of higher learning, to relevant courses by training providers such as Singapore Institute of Power and Gas and the BCA Academy.
  3. EMA Chief Executive Ng Wai Choong said: "There are new and exciting developments in the Power sector, from the expansion of the Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal, the increasing deployment of solar energy to the need to mitigate cyber-security challenges for power systems. With the SkillsFuture Study Awards, we hope our Power sector technical professionals will take this opportunity to develop greater mastery of skills not just to stay relevant, but to also propel the industry forward."
  4. UPAGE General Secretary Abdul Samad Bin Abdul Wahab said: "We strongly encourage our members and those keen to join us to apply for this Awards. This is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your skills and grow in a meaningful career to help keep the lights on and gas flowing for Singapore."
  5. The SkillsFuture Study Awards is a monetary award to help Singaporeans equip themselves with the skills needed to benefit from quality jobs created by our economy.
