Singapore and IEA Co-host Inaugural Energy Efficiency Training Week

20 Jul 2017
Media Releases 20 Jul 2017
  1. The five-day International Energy Agency (IEA) training programme in Singapore is designed to help Asia-Pacific countries enhance their energy efficiency and build capabilities.
  2. More than 80 participants from 17 countries will convene in Singapore today for the inaugural Singapore-IEA Energy Efficiency Training Week for Asia Pacific.
  3. The Training Week will offer four parallel tracks on energy efficiency in buildings; transport; industry; and lighting, appliances and equipment. Each track will consist of a mix of lectures, interactive discussions, practical exercises and a site visit.
  4. This initiative is the first activity under the Singapore-IEA Regional Training Hub. This was launched last October at the Singapore International Energy Week by Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) Mr S Iswaran and IEA Executive Director Dr Fatih Birol. The Regional Training Hub taps on Singapore’s strategic location to provide the region with greater access to IEA’s expertise and training programmes.
  5. Mr Ng Wai Choong, Chief Executive of the Energy Market Authority, said: “Energy efficiency is a key priority for many Asia-Pacific countries. Singapore shares a common vision with the IEA on the need to enhance capabilities in implementing energy efficiency. This training programme would contribute to levelling up the knowledge and skills of the region’s energy policymakers and workforce.”
  6. "Energy efficiency is critical to global energy policy and is the reason why many countries saw lower energy demand growth in recent years," said the IEA Deputy Executive Director Mr Paul Simons. "The IEA training weeks aims to establish best practices and share experiences while building a global community of experts around energy policy."
  7. Singapore and the IEA will next co-host the inaugural Singapore-IEA Forum on 24 October 2017 at the 10th Singapore International Energy Week. The Forum will focus on energy investments and provide a platform to build public-private sector partnerships.
