Codes of Practice

Under the Electricity Act, EMA has issued the following codes of practice to regulate the activities and conduct of the electricity industry.


Market Support Services Code

This code of practice sets forth the minimum standards of performance, which the service provider has to adhere to when carrying out its operations. It also spells out the rights and obligations of the retail licensee, generation licensee, transmission licensee, and the contestable consumer in respect of the market support services.

Metering Code

This code of practice sets out the rights and obligations of the metering service providers and metered entities. It also lays out the technical specifications for meter installations and equipment.

Code of Conduct for Retail Electricity Licensees

This code of practice sets out the minimum standards of performance which the retail electricity licensees have to adhere to. There are specific requirements that apply to retailing activities directed at small consumers.

Transmission Code

This code of practice sets the minimum conditions which the Transmission Licensee must meet in carrying out its obligations to provide transmission services and to provide non-discriminatory access to the Transmission Licensee's transmission system. It spells out the rights and obligations of the Transmission Licensee in providing transmission services, together with the rights and obligations of the users of transmission services. It also lays out the technical requirements for those who are connected to the transmission system.

Regulated Supply Service Code

This code of practice sets forth the minimum standards of performance, which a Market Support Services Licensee (MSSL) is required to adhere to when carrying out its operations to supply and sell electricity as well as provide other associated market support services to non-contestable consumers. It also sets out the rights and obligations of the MSSL and a non-contestable consumer with respect to the regulated supply service.
