New Solar PV Handbook Launched

17 Nov 2009
Media Releases 17 Nov 2009

Singapore, 17 November 2009 – The Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) today released a new “Handbook for Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems”, to facilitate the installation of solar PV systems in Singapore.

The new handbook serves as a comprehensive and reader-friendly guide to owners, developers, engineers, architects, and electricians on the key issues, requirements and processes involved in the installation of solar PV systems. It integrates and replaces the existing manuals on solar PV systems issued separately by EMA and BCA, i.e. the "Handbook for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems" by EMA and the "GREEN Handbook – Photovoltaic (PV) Systems in Buildings" by BCA.

The handbook also covers the licensing and technical requirements, the operational and maintenance needs, as well as the building and structural issues related to the implementation of solar PV systems. Examples of solar PV projects in Singapore are highlighted, as well as information on the existing government schemes to test-bed solar PV systems in Singapore.

The handbook was launched by Mr David Tan, Deputy Chief Executive of EMA today at the Quality and Standards 2009 conference organised by SPRING Singapore as part of the Singapore International Energy Week.

The handbook is available on EMA’s and BCA’s websites (www.ema.gov.sg or www.bca.gov.sg).
