The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and Ministry of Climate and Enterprise of Sweden have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Energy Cooperation to enhance collaboration on regional energy interconnectivity and the development of clean energy technologies.
Under the MOU, both parties will cooperate on advancing High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies and transmission infrastructure, including subsea cables. The partnership will contribute to ongoing efforts to realise the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and support greater opportunities for multilateral and multidirectional electricity trading across the region. The MOU will also facilitate knowledge exchange on regional interconnectivity, ammonia and hydrogen, nuclear safety, as well as cooperation at multilateral fora to accelerate Singapore’s decarbonisation pathways.
Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, said: “EMA appreciates the opportunity to deepen our collaboration with Sweden to develop expertise on regional interconnectivity and clean energy technologies, which are key enablers in Singapore’s energy transition. We look forward to working with Sweden to advance regional decarbonisation efforts and achieve a sustainable energy future for all.”
The MOU was signed on the occasion of the State Visit of Sweden to Singapore from 19 – 21 November 2024.
