Singapore and Sweden to Deepen Cooperation on Clean Energy and Regional Interconnectivity

30 Oct 2025
Media Releases 30 Oct 2025
  1. The Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) and the Government of Sweden jointly launched the inaugural Singapore – Sweden Forum on 30 October 2025, held in conjunction with the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).
  2. The Singapore – Sweden Forum follows the signing of the Singapore-Sweden Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Energy Cooperation during the State Visit of HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in November 2024. This was followed by several high-level exchanges which took place this year to deepen collaboration on clean energy technologies and regional energy interconnectivity.
  3. The Forum featured top energy leaders from Singapore and Sweden who shared their views on hydrogen and clean fuels, smart grids, energy efficiency, cross-border connectivity and innovative energy technologies. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry of Sweden, Ebba Busch, delivered a keynote speech and underscored the critical role of innovation in advancing the energy transition. She welcomed opportunities for further exchanges between both countries.
  4. “This Forum builds on the strong and longstanding ties between Sweden and Singapore. Sweden’s energy and industrial policy combines competitiveness with climate ambition, focusing on practical solutions that advance innovation, digitalisation, and modern nuclear technologies,” said Ms Ebba Busch, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry. “By working closely with partners in Asia, we can strengthen energy security, support a stable global baseload, and accelerate the green transition toward a sustainable energy future."
  5. Both parties agreed on the importance of enhancing multilateral and multidirectional electricity trading to strengthen regional energy resilience, and to cooperate on deploying High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies and transmission infrastructure, including overland and subsea cables, in support of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). Both parties also look forward to deepening exchanges on nuclear technologies and safety, furthering cooperation at SIEW and at multilateral fora, and exploring emerging clean fuel pathways such as hydrogen and ammonia through collaboration and knowledge exchange.
  6. Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, said: “EMA welcomes the deepening of collaboration and high-level exchanges between Singapore and Sweden on energy technologies and innovation, under the Singapore-Sweden MOU on Energy Cooperation. These will support ongoing efforts to realise the ASEAN Power Grid and catalyse new ideas and opportunities for the energy transition. We look forward to deepening this partnership and realising a sustainable and secure energy future for all.”
