- The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore and Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission of Japan (EGC) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) to strengthen collaboration on energy market regulation.
- The MOC was signed on 13 July 2026 in Singapore by EMA’s Chief Executive, Mr. PUAH Kok Keong and EGC’s Secretary General, Mr. Tatsuya SHINKAWA.
- The MOC aims to promote cooperation and information exchange on gas and electricity markets. It will also facilitate greater knowledge exchange on energy market surveillance approaches, regulation design, and system stability measures. Activities under this MOC include dialogues between EMA and EGC, technical exchanges, study visits and joint research opportunities.
- Mr Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of EMA, said: “Given the rapidly evolving energy landscape, it is important that our regulatory practices are kept up-to-date. Our exchanges with EGC are part of our efforts to ensure a well-functioning energy market and the reliability of power supply. We look forward to closer cooperation and discussions, including at the upcoming Regulators@SIEW event during the Singapore International Energy Week in October 2026.”
- Mr Tatsuya Shinkawa, Secretary General of EGC, said: “Japan and Singapore share many common features in their energy sectors and face similar challenges in ensuring reliable energy supply and well-functioning electricity markets. We are pleased to conclude this MoC with EMA and look forward to strengthening cooperation, exchanging experience, and enhancing consumer protection for the benefit of both countries.”
