The Energy Market Authority (EMA) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint up to two additional term Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) importers for Singapore. This will complement the current four term LNG importers to enhance competition and provide more options for gas buyers.
Natural gas, which is the cleanest-burning fossil fuel, is one of four Switches in Singapore’s transition towards a more reliable, affordable and cleaner energy future. Natural gas is used to produce around 95% of Singapore’s electricity, and will continue to be a dominant fuel for Singapore’s electricity generation, as the other three Switches are being scaled up – solar, regional power grids and low-carbon alternatives. (Refer to Annex for more information on the Singapore Energy Transition.)
Interested parties are invited to submit proposals which will be evaluated based on their ability to provide reliable, secure and competitive supply of LNG to Singapore. Proposals must be submitted by 8 July 2022, 3.00pm (Singapore time). Those interested should visit www.ema.gov.sg/LNG-RFP-2022 and refer to the RFP document for more details.
The current LNG term importers are ExxonMobil LNG Asia Pacific, Pavilion Energy Singapore Pte. Ltd, Sembcorp Fuels (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. and Shell Eastern Trading (Pte) Ltd.
